cold fighting smoothie.

COLD

Its like the plague has hit our home. First, pink eye struck. Then a bad cold I’ve been fighting for over a week. Then 103 degree fevers and a trip to ER for milo…. Now my husband is sick. Its been a LOOOONG week. and my cold is still lingering!

I made up this smoothie to help us get some vitamin c in our bodies first thing in the morning. It may not actually “fight” a cold – but I wanted something nourishing and fresh in our bodies to start the day since we haven’t been eating much real food otherwise. It definitely tastes good!

1/2 cup almond milk
1 orange
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 handful spinach/and or kale
Squirt of honey

Mix it in a blender and drink away!

172. cookie butter shake.

Don’t let this boring photo fool you. THIS SHAKE IS DELICIOUS.

If you haven’t tried trader joes cookie butter yet, you need to. Or if you haven’t tried it, save yourself and NEVER touch it. But you will be missing out. This stuff is AMAZING. I haven’t done a ton with it yet, but I have dipped dark chocolate squares in it, ate it right off the spoon and smeared it on apples.

Tonight I put it in a shake and it blew my mind.

1 cup soy ice cream (vanilla)
1 banana (not frozen)
1 T cookie butter
1/2 cup vanilla almond milk

144. Strawberry banana peach smoothie

Another busy day!

Needed time to fuel with a smoothie.

Almond milk, frozen strawberries, frozen peaches and banana.
Added some hemp seeds, flax and protein powder.

61. oatmeal breakfast smoothie.

Tonight I’m leaving on a plane to head to NYC. So this week has been pretty food heavy, but I hope to have some crafty things in store next week – Today I give you a smoothie….one of my favorites. It reminds me of the oatmeal shakes you get at Irazu.  Not dead on, but similar for sure. Its a thinner smoothie than you might be used to, but I love the sweetness from the dates and cinnamon. Reminds me of horchata. I’m sure you can definitely play with this basic formula and mix and match and come up with all kinds of delicious combinations. I know I plan to…. But for now, this is the basic go-to recipe.

1/4 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup almond milk
1/3 cup yogurt (I used soy)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for dusting
1 apple, cored and roughly chopped
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 dried dates
Ice cubes

* Try adding a frozen banana or subbing banana for apple. both options = YUM!
